Homemade Collar Necklace By: Erin Montgomery

With Christmas just weeks away I know you are frantically planning your holiday outfits, and you are probably tossing around a few ideas for accessories. When you think of Christmas outfits you tend to picture something red or green or even black but the accessories are always sparkly and shimmering and are usually gold or silver.

Let’s face it our budgets may be a little tight at the moment because we are spoiling everyone else. So instead of buying a piece of expensive jewelry to dress up your holiday outfit why not add jewelry making to your to do list?

This season the biggest accessory is the collar necklace and some of the designs can run up to $100 or more. Let me show you how you can make yourself a collar necklace that will have all your friends calling you to place their order for a custom collar necklace.

It is super easy and inexpensive. You can download a pattern for the collar necklace and print it and start cutting, or you can trace the collar of a button down shirt.

Once you have your collar cut out you need to sew in either a button or a snap on the underside of one top corner to you can easily put the collar on and take it off.

Now for the fun part the decorating! Its like doing arts and crafts just grab a bottle of Mod Podge and cover the surface of the collar using a foam brush. Once the collar is completely covered in Mod Podge choose a fine glitter (in any color) and cover the collar with a heaving dusting of the glitter. Shake off an excess glitter and set to dry. To make sure the glitter is secure once it is dry cover it with another layer of Mod Podge just to be safe.

Till next time,

Erin
